2013 Golf Tournaments Guide
The Rockford Park District Summer 2013 Golf Tournaments Guide is now available. The 16-page guide contains information on events for golfers of all ages; youth events include the Tiger Cub Invitational, Rockford Area Youth Tournament Series, Boys Classic, Girls Classic, and Youth Mixed Doubles Classic. Adult events include the Mixed Doubles Classic and the Aldeen Cup, as well as the Women's, Men's, and Senior classic tournaments.
Tournament sponsors are Riverside Community Bank, Entré Computer Solutions, Edward Jones, 13 WREX, and Rockford Women's Golf Association.
Youth Golf Clinics
Rockford Park District invites youth golfers ages 6-17 for free clinics on Sunday, June 2, 2013. In addition to instruction on chipping and putting, practice time on the driving range will also be included. Among the teaching staff at the clinic, special guest instructor Michael Hebron, PGA Master Professional and author from Smithtown, New York, is scheduled to appear. The Michael Hebron Youth Clinics will be held at Ingersoll Golf Course and Learning Links; the session for ages 6-11 is 9:00-11:00 a.m., and the session for ages 12-17 is 12:30-2:30 p.m.
To allow for adequate staffing, pre-registration is required by May 29.
Drive, Chip and Putt Championship
Sorry the deadline for registration has passed. The event will be held at Elliot Golf Course on Friday, July 19.
John Deere Classic Birdies for Charity
The Rockford Park District joined with The John Deere Classic Birdies for Charity program in 2010, and to date has raised more than $6,000 for Rockford Park District youth golf programs. The 2012 campaign generated more than $3,000, which will be used in the PGA Sports Academy PE curriculum.
There are two ways to help raise funds for the program - simply pledge a one-time donation OR pledge one cent or more per birdie that will be made Wednesday - Sunday during the tournament by the PGA Tour Pros. A grand prize will be given by the John Deere Classic to the person who guesses the correct number (in the event of a tie, winners will be randomly selected).
